For most start-up businesses, equity investment generally refers to the acquisition of equity (ownership) participation in a private company or a startup.
These types of investments are understood to be of higher risk than investment in an existing business.
The equity investment process requires that your business strategy has advanced and you have a comprehensive business plan. If you do not have a comprehensive
business plan, please see the
business plan section of the Idea Pathway.
Prior to seeking equity capital, a person may need to consult with an experienced business attorney. There are laws restricting how equity money can be raised
from the public and individuals need to be careful to structure any equity deal in the best interest of the business.
